Lord of the Flies has been strange so far, to say the least. There is not much background given, although some is revealed through dialogue and interactions between characters. It seems that main characters are starting to distinguish themselves. I would say so far that these are Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and maybe Simon. The setting has been made clear- they are on an island.
As of right now I kind of understand that there are many thing in the book that symbolize for something else such as there being a snake like creature that everyone is creeped out about this may symbolize that everything is going to chaos and also the snake being the mark of Saten symbolizes that there may be something bad that is foreshadowed here.

Human Nature
I believe that humans are full of possibility and that they will do anything to survive. Every individual human is different, yet similar to other humans. For example, all humans have similar bone and internal structures, but on the outside, everybody is different and also their mentality is different in ways of thoughts, actions and mindset.
I believe that humans are different because of past experiences traveling to places. I have met a variety of people in a variety of places. I have seen that everybody is unique in their own way. Everybody acts differently, speaks their own language and in some ways misinterprets things. This is why you may never know what people will do, say, or think because they are different in many ways mentally and physically.

A Land More Kind Than Home
In chapters 11- 13 sheriff Clem Barfield recounts finding his son Jeff dead on the side of the road. He had died in an accident while working on a transformer as a member of Jimmy Hall's electrical crew. Clem searched for Jimmy Hall after the accident and found him in his truck on top of Gunter Mountain during a snowstorm. Clem Barfields car got stuck in the snow so he walked up to Jimmy's car, noticed that he was drunk and left him there to sober up, not altogether caring if he lived or died fortunately he lived. The next morning Jimmy towed Clem's car down from the mountain.
The speaker in these chapters is Adelaide Lyle, as she recounts the story of her childhood with her great aunt on top of Parker Mountain as well as her voyage to the city of Asheville to work. While in the city she worked her way up from washing clothing to working with tobacco, given her history with the product. She returned from her summer in the city to find that her aunt had died, and no one had taken care of her body. She recalls a dream she had of Jesus who showed her her aunt in heaven. When she finds her body she buries her herself on top of Gunter mountain and gets help by her neibors to build the coffin. She then recounts the story of her trek though the blizzard to help Julie give birth to Stump. She successfully gives birth to Stump, but he does not cry at all during the process, foreboding his mute future.

Fall Break Free Response
Well, I would like to
say that during fall break I went on great trip to the beach but in complete
honesty I just laid on my couch. Usually
my family takes a trip to the beach every fall break but since my brothers and
I have different days off that makes it nearly impossible. Instead, this year I did nothing but sleep, watch TV and go to the LSU game.
Basically on Saturday I woke up at 10 o'clock and went to help set up the tailgate for the LSU game. For the first few hours we were setting up tents, chairs, TVs and tables. Next we got the TV working and put it on College football games like Alabama, Arkansas, and Wisconsin. Throughout the day I sat and watched football and listened to music until it was time to go into the LSU game. LSU is playing Southern Miss who to me are not very good. It started out a good game and it ended in a blow out by LSU winning by at least 40 points. Although it was not an interesting game I still had a lot of fun.

Response to Should We Abandon Louisiana? In some ways, we already have.
Should We Rebuild
Louisiana by Zack Kopplin is an article that addresses the
question: Should we rebuild Louisiana after the flood? During the flood in
August, there were 13 people who died and many people who were dispersed all
over Louisiana knowing they might have lost everything. This was the biggest
disaster since Hurricane Sandy in the United States. Unlike Hurricane Sandy,
this flood did not have any media attention before the flooding began. Kopplin
says, many people woke up one morning with water in their house. Hurricane
Sandy was in the media for a while before it actually hit, but no one expected
the flooding Louisianans got.
This disaster was devastating to Louisiana's
People, Ecosystems and culture but facing the facts the people of
Louisiana have persevered by gutting their houses. I think this is what we
should do because if we don't stay and abandon Louisiana then we lose this
culturally diverse area within the United States. Many people cannot
rebuild due to the governmental organization FEMA not supplying
flood evacuees enough money to rebuild. I feel like the government
should be focused more on finding ways to prevent this
culturally diverse heartland instead of finding places to
relocate inhabitants of Louisiana.

The Flood
I got into a good routine, school in the
morning, football after school. I thought this was going to be a good
start but then the disaster hit. It started pouring rain without letting
up. When we first got news that school was canceled, we didn’t know why.
But then as the week when on, it kept raining every single day. I started
hearing of people going and getting sandbags for the fear that their houses may
flood. I immediately tried to do whatever I could to help. As a football
team, we started to go and help people that needed it. We would go out at 9:30
every morning and not come back until around five.
The first day we went to Wayne Stabile’s
house. Immediately when we opened the door, the smell of mildew and mold rushed
into my nose. We started taking out furniture, books, and beds. After
that we started pulling up the floors. This was one of the worst smells I have
ever smelled. We had to pull up all the floors in every room. I thought we
would never get finished. Then after that we started pulling out the sheet rock
that got wet in the flood. It was painstaking work but we finally
finished it. After that we did eight more houses as a team. Most of
the people who went to Episcopal did not get flooded. But when the disaster
hits like that one the only thing you can do is help and that is exactly what
we did. This event helped me realize that even if nothing happened to
you, you still need to do your part to help others.
